8 Great Tips to Help You Lock Down Your Future Home

The grueling but inevitable process of deciding where to move next can be a long, but eventually rewarding, journey.

We gathered some tips you need to consider when you’re starting the quest for your new home.

1. Walk Through Walls

Your house extends beyond the walls of your space. Keep an eye on the closest services and, if you can, pay visits by both day night to get a sense of the vibes in your potential neighborhood.

2. Don’t Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

Make sure you can realistically afford your monthly rent or mortgage payments. Recommended spending on housing shouldn’t exceed 30% - 40% of your total monthly income.

3. Want vs. Need

Be practical. Consider occasional visits from friends and family but remember to be realistic about the amount of space you really need on a daily basis.

4. Seeing is Believing

Whether you’re buying online or through an agent, never trust a picture. You don’t really know what you’re buying into until you have seen it in person; so best not to make any kind of payments until then either. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

5. Facilities and Utilities

Always ask what utilities are covered within your contract beforehand. Open water tabs, test plugs and make sure everything is functioning well before you move in.

6. Con-tract

Take your time, read through your contract thoroughly and make sure to ask questions if you need to. Don’t be ‘conned’ (just in case you were wondering where the word originated from).

7. Homes Need Selfies Too!

Besides the fact that you want to show the place to your family and friends, you don’t want to be accounted down the line for something that was already there.

8. Invest Where You Tend

Some like the kitchen, others can’t live without an outdoor space. Whatever it is for you, don’t shy away from investing in the place you spend most of your time in.
